Update your RSS feed and other links

Just a quick note for those of you were here on back with the old system (think black layout).  If you have bookmarks or RSS readers using links from that system it would be a good idea to update them since they have all probably changed.  I have a way to redirect those old URLs to the new ones and did that initially.  However, when I performed updates on the current system those redirects disappeared and I didn't realize it until last night.  The redirects are back in place, but those were using the old RSS feed may have missed some updates on my blog and/or in the forum.

So, update those bookmarks and RSS feed URLs in case I break them again (not that I am intending to do so).

Good Idea Gone Wrong: The Discovery Channel Hostage Taking

Unless you live cut off from the news, you know that the corporate office building of the Discovery Channel had ..... an incident today.  James J. Lee, armed with a gun and explosives, took three people hostage in the lobby of the building.  His intent was to bring attention to a cause he believed in trying to resolve, the destruction of our planet.  I doubt anyone can excuse his methodology today of gaining that attention.  He has a website in which he declares his demands for the Discovery Channel.  Some of his ideas are thought provoking.  Others are .... bizarre.

The FBI is likely to have his website shutdown any time now, his final message may be lost.  Since I apparently like to archive non-mainstream websites that are going to be lost, in this post is the contents of his public facing page, his demands for the Discovery Channel.

Shamanism for Beginners

Almost a month ago I did some research for the posting I made about the 2012 ideas. One of the sources of information about what will happen at the end of 2012 come from Mayan shamans while under the influence of psychedelics.  A week later, I'm walking through a Half-Price Bookstore, looking for nothing in particular, when I come across "Shamanism for Beginners" by James Endredy.  I started reading the introduction to the book and found it incredibly interesting.  Interesting enough I bought it and read through it.  In this post I'll talk about some of the information I found in it.

December 21, 2012: The end of an era? The impending apocalypse? Or just another day?

Spottyshan mentioned issues surrounding the year 2012 in response to one of my recent postings.  I admitted I wasn't very familiar with the theories involved with it.  So I figured I would do a little research and see what the big deal is.  Wikipedia has a good article that discusses the various issues and theories.  What I plan to do with this post is to give a synopsis of some of those theories and see if there is any meaning to the date December 21, 2012 or if it's a bunch of useless speculation.

The Forums Are Open

The Matrixism forums are open for business!  You can access them using the link from the menu on the right or going directly to http://www.NewMatrixism.com/forum.  On the old version of the site I had a big problem with spam posting and keeping up with it.  Since the re-launch of NewMatrixism.com the anti-spam prevention methods have been working very well.  I'm afraid of jinxing myself, but there has been no spam for me to whack-away.  At the same time, there have been some comments from readers in the few postings I've made.  Therefore, I've decided to go forward and activate the forums again.  So come on in and talk with your fellow Matrixists and other visitors.

Today's "Brave New World"

Some time ago I read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".  Written in 1931, Huxley told the story of a future in which there is a totalitarian world government.  In this world, people are assigned their places in life and genetically engineered for it from the time of "conception"; a person who would work in a metal smelting factory would be given high tolerances to heat; a person who would be a regional administrator would be given high intelligence.  Through a rigid educational system that includes recordings played while a person sleeps, the populace is trained to accept what they are told and not to buck the system.  Liberal rations of a state supported drug, soma, is used to avert depression and unhappy thoughts.  A person's free time is spent performing some activity that requires the use of manufactured stuff; activities include movies with smell-o-touch-o-vision and sports that require elaborate fields, setups and gear.  To simply take a quiet walk, sit at the beach to watch the waves come in, and to even read a book is seen as odd and against society.  And anyone who is deemed to be anti-society is banished to isolated islands of like minded people so they can't infect the populous.

Almost 30 years later, Huxley wrote "Brave New World Revisited" in which he starts by saying he thought the world he envisioned was far off in the future.  However, even in the late 1950s he believed we were rapidly heading towards it.  Having recently finished reading his thoughts on where the world was heading, it seems that even more we are headed to what he greatly feared.  Below are some interesting tidbits of what Huxley had to say about what he saw as our future.
